It is time! Your kitten is coming home with you!
This is an exciting time for you, one filled with moments that are often priceless...I want to help make the transition one that is enjoyed.
There are several questions you should ask before you come to get your kitten.
What has the kitten been eating?
Litter and litterboxes?
Basic things to have on hand?
Introduction into the new home?
Sources of toys? What toys are ok?
When should I take the kitten to the vet?
When should I spay and neuter? Do you do it?
What about vaccinations?
What is "Isolation" and why should I do it?
WHAT HAS THE KITTEN BEEN EATING?
I just started to feed my kittens Nutro Max and Eukanuba. I find it puts better weight on the kittens, keeping them a nice good chubby size, and they seem to like the smell and the taste better than any other diet I have tried.
I also find it's better because the new owners can find the food easily, they dont have to special order the cats food, and its not terribly expensive. A 20lb bag is usually between $25-35.00 at Petco when its NOT on sale. Im sure there are other places to get it cheaper. Maybe at a neighborhood feed store?!
Please remember, any change in the kittens diet should be done very gradually. Mix in 90% regular food and 10% new food and remember to increase the percentage of the new food each day. It should take about two weeks before completely transitioning.
CATS ARE SENSATIVE TO CHANGE IN DIET AND CAN CAUSE SOME INTESTINAL IRREGULARITIES!!!
Remember if you have other pets, such as dogs, to keep the kittens food bowls away from the dog or other animals.
LITTER AND LITTERBOXES?
We use "WOOD FUEL PELLETS" from our local hardware store. In some areas this is a seasonal item, so you may have to use FELINE PINE or another off brand product. But its compacted wood pellets. These pellets are all natural with no additives or chemicals. We dump the litter once a day, unless there are multiple cats using the same litterbox then its usually twice a day. Remember this is a cattery. If you have one cat or kitten, once a day would be sufficient. Please remember to disinfect your litterbox. Its very important for the health of your cat to sterilize their litterbox frequently as most virus are caught through litterboxes. Even if the cat is the only animal you have. You dont want its feces stuck to the side of the litterbox.
WE WILL NOT SELL A KITTEN TO ANYONE WHO WILL USE ANY KIND OF CLUMPING LITTER! THIS HAS PROVED TO BE DEADLY TO BENGALS AS THEY ARE VERY CLEAN CATS AND CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THEIR PAWS VERY OFTEN AND CAN GET BLOCKAGE IN THEIR INTESTINES AND CAUSE DEHYDRATION AND DIARHEA AND IS A MOST PAINFUL DEATH!!!
